This version of blues-meets-electronica is undoubtedly intriguing to the all-important NPR crowd, but it is more than just a bit gimmicky to any techno fans who know their Carl Craig from Carl Cox. Originally released on May 17, 1999, Play went on to become the biggest-selling album of its genre, with over 12 million copies sold worldwide. The album introduced Moby to a worldwide mainstream audience, not only through a large number of hit singles but also through unprecedented licensing of his music in films, television and commercial advertisements, making Play one of the most commercially licensed albums ever produced. Just a but baffled, why would anyone bother buying a reissue of this from Amazon when at the time of writing Discogs marketplace have 527 available from different sellers, mint copies as well !!!

Mash
Well, I have pre-ordered mine a couple of months ago. And also a lot of seller add to the description that it will ship after they get it first.

LONUDOG
On the other news - Amazon Germany says that it will ship on the 20th of June!

Moogugore
Again delayed on Amazon, it says June now.. Extremely annoying!

Snowseeker
I have a copy on amazon pre-order for a May delivery as per the below advice

Grari
if you can wait until May, you can snag it on the Amazon germany store for about $28 shipped...

Jake
Getting a vinyl reissue in October year.

Gri
+1 for the "wish it had a gatefold" club. An otherwise stellar release.

Hanad
Glad to own this release as I missed it first time around and what a great treat to listen to on my Orbit U-Turn.

Steel_Blade
Nice pressing BUT i checked / compared it to my original UK Mute copy. The sound of the the original has higher punch and volume for 100%! The sound of the reissue is very good but i don't know why & how the remastering "increased" the volume, the bass and the POWER of the original vinyl 2002 sound.

PC-rider
I am not sure i understand your last sentence which seems to contradict the first

Falya
Really nice pressing. The music isn't totally to my taste, but nonetheless, a great package.

Maridor
This is definitely the most definitive pressing of this album yet, that is unless you care about Gwen's vocals on South Side. Despite not having a gatefold, everything is perfect from the inserts, sleeves, and most importantly, pressing quality. I'm one who generally critiques vinyl record clubs as a negative thing due to all the garbage most put out, but VMP is proof that it can be done right and with the quality record enthusiasts approve of.

Puchock
Sounds fantastic, a great reedition.A very good Pressing. Enjoy it. Amazing Color.

Yggdi
Another amazing sounding album from VMP. I don't know who is pressing their records but keep it up!

Hudora
I own the orginal pressing and I've compared the two pressings. VMP has done a great job! The VMP pressing sounds brigher and cleaner than the OG! The sleeve & logo are a bit off compared to the OG but when the overall the sound of the record is better, who cares!! The sound is more important to me. This pressing gets an A++!

Ferri - My name
Sounds great. Too bad VMP couldn’t get the die cut sleeves and LP labels to match perfectly like in the original UK version. Come on guys! You pride yourselves with unique custom releases but then lack the attention to detail to get something so basic like this right.

VariesWent
I’m on Side 3/C now and so far there has been no discernible auditory differences, which leads me to believe that the “re-record” was just re-rendering the synth parts from 16-bit to 24-bit as Lucas220 suggested, giving more definition.Apart from using the Gwen Stefani version of “South side”, this is the 1999 album we all first heard with a fantastic deluxe treatment.

Error parents
minusthesnake Gwen was actually supposed to be on the original pressing but Interscope was holding up the album's release by dragging their feet clearing her appearance, so Moby deleted her part. Once the album was a hit, Interscope begged him to release the Gwen version as a single. I've always preferred the version of the song with her as his vocals sound off by themselves, he's clearly meant to be harmonizing with another voice. Almost. Acording to Moby himself he couldn't get a good sounding mix with Gwens vocals but since deadline was approaching he decided to scrap the idea. Later on he met a guy who'd help him with his mix and he was able to make a proper mix that worked/sounded good, so it was used on the single.

I thought I read somewhere on VMP he rerecorded a couple parts to sound better than ever but that could be the rerender as you said.

MrDog
One slight tweak is the starts of “If things were perfect” and “The sky is broken” starts more quickly. In the 1999 CD release, there is about a two second delay where you hear the whir of either the computer or the recorder before the bass or drums come in.

Pipet
Can someone play this back to back with the CD version and let us know the differences? I'm thinking he just re-recorded some of the 16-bit synth samples into 24-bit.

What an amazing pressing! The colour is wicked and the sound quality is spot on!!

Very Old Chap
VMP really knocked it out of the park with this release. Packaging is always on point, the print is great, and the translucent blue really pops.

Blackbrand
Is the version of South Side with Gwen Stefani actually on this edition? I was surprised to see it in the credits...Also has anyone picked up on the songs that have had parts re-recorded?

BlackHaze
Yes it was moby's vision to always have her version on it and since this release is supposed to meet his ideal vision it would only make sense to include it

Reggy
There have been reissues of the album that replace "South side" with the one featuring Gwen Stefani.

GoodBuyMyFriends
Yes, it's the Gwen Stefani version of "South Side." She was always supposed to be on the album version, but her label was holding up the album's release, so Moby deleted her vocals. Nice to see this far superior version of the song restored to the album for this reissue.

Naa
The album version does not feature Stefani the single version does...

Ucantia
It is the Gwen Stefani version. I'm not sure about the other differences yet. I just noticed that too and played that song first. I'm curious about the other variations as well.

Freighton
A Pure Vinyl Experience, my shure v15vmr is loving it!!

just one girl
This is perhaps the finest VMP issue ever. It sounds glorious in every respect.

Shistus
My only complaint is that it should have been released in a gatefold jacket. In a perfect vinyl world, every 2xLP release is housed in a gatefold jacket.

Zeueli
This is the first US issuing on vinyl since 1999. I can tell you all about how my copy sounds great, but you are better off knowing that it has the seal of approval from the actual artist. The album was re-recorded, remastered, and had the test pressings approved by Moby himself.
