Album

The Continuing Saga of the Ageing Orphans is a 1978 compilation album by the rock group Thin Lizzy. Despite ostensibly featuring a selection of songs from the band's first three albums and their rare New Day EP, most of the tracks are in fact different from the originally released versions, having been remixed and altered with newly recorded material specially for this release during Christmas 1977. Of the 11 tracks, only Mama Nature Said, The Hero and the Madman and Vagabond of the Western World. Continuing Saga of Ageing Orphans. Great compilation album released in 1979, that helped me discover the early years of Thin Lizzy, though I already knew Vagabonds Of The Western World, which is still one of my all-time favourite albums. Most of the songs on this album were actually 1977 remixes. The album was conceived and co-ordinated by Frank Rodgers. Issued with a two sided printed lyric insert. Unusually for a compilation, this album features overdubs by the band members to bring it in line with how their production style had changed by 1977 (in particular, using twin guitars). The three tracks from 'Vagabonds Of The Western World' were left in their original mixes. Whilst this compilation was not released on CD, the remixed tracks were eventually reissued on the remastered CDs of Thin Lizzy and Shades Of A Blue Orphanage in 2010. For reasons unspecified, the intro to Brought Down was cut slightly on this compilation compared to the original recording, starting on the second half of its riff. This was not corrected on the remaster.
